What is the purpose of Social Media?
Social media allows you to interact with your customers and potential customers but also, probably more importantly, the other way round. Your customers can “speak” to you quickly and easily.
“Is this not scary, what if they are rude to us?” I hear you say. Well yes, that is a possibility, but let’s presume that you are here because you believe in good customer service and hence value feedback. Without feedback you can never improve your services or truly know that you are doing the best for your customers.
The best businesses enjoy interacting with their customers, they keep on top of the conversations and manage their reputation. They also keep an eye on “trends” and what the competition may be doing.
Social media is just about having conversations, it is not “selling” or “advertising”. It gives your customers a chance to get to know you, to learn to trust you before they have even purchased from you. For trust to grow, your social media message needs to be consistent and authentic. You need to understand your customer’s perspective. Daily posts without follow up or replies will not build trust and in turn will not increase your potential customer base.
More and more businesses are realising this and now employ a social media manager or look to companies like Interphase to manage social media for you.
